Default Can somone explain Chest Runs?

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out; I have been looking all around the forums for ways to make money since I would like to get 15k set. One thing that keeps coming up is " Chest Runs". I really have no idea what you guys are talking about so could somone explain to me, in detail, what exactly you do and where you do it?

I am fairly new to this game(started about three weeks ago).

Thanks

Chest runs are just what they say... a group of warrior and/or rangers who run to chests... primarly in the Southern Shiver Peaks, and FoW.. Buy keys and run to chests hoping for a good drop.

another way I have been making some money again is gambling on Unrated matches... How it works is arrange an unrated match with odds normally...

(I Normally invite the opposing team to our guild hall so we can all agree on bets and odds in open) Odds are based on a roll of a die... (this can be done in guild halls and everyone see them as an emote) everyone pools their bets and the odds are recorded...

Then Play the unrated match...

Meet back at hall for winnings...

Warning!!! Requires an honest guild host!!! there is some scam risk in this gambling endeavor... Just as there was with dice before becoming an emote... lol

Now I got a little flack for the "(ock" fighting Stuff with Pets in Team Arenas... so I have not posted this. but i have found it to be a popular side thing to do to make a little money... In the end I make more then I loose normally... I take 8% off the top for running the game... that is normally around 800 to 900 gold per match... rest is given to the winners leader and they divy it up however... If I was REAL efficient we would use a full time guild bookie... but its just a casual thing. we don't do it often. Last game the winning team won around 20k... so that split 8 ways was 2.5k each. Not too bad right? for one GvG practice battle??? and an original stake of 300 gold to play? with a *6/8 Odds modifier, now is it?
Quote:
How it works...

Each party member makes a bet... amt * 16 = total pot...

then the guy that covers the bets decides odds based on bet... 4 to 8 sided die... /roll # get the odds...

Total Pot * Odds 6/8 = Winning Amount pool.

Winning Amount Pool - (8% overhead) = Final Pot (given to winning leader).

Final Pot / # of real players on winning team (not counting henchies) = each winning party members share...

yes random...but there are areas where you can be pretty sure there will be chests nearby...for FoW there is the center, the forest and by the siege worms. Sometimes in the begining as well before the nasty center/plains place.

Chest running is definitely not for the timid. It will break the bank real quick, but if you're lucky you might find some worth all the effort.

Also, prices for everything in the game are decreasing at a rapid pace, but the price for keys are staying the same. Obviously, this means your chances for a decent return are also decreasing.

I've done quite a few runs in the Southern Shiverpeaks(not specifying location) with a few of my former guildies, and I actually have pulled out a few decent drops, such as gold weapons and superior runes. But like mentioned, it is a big gamble, dumping 600g on each key, and when the majority of drops(seriously, like 80-90%) end up being a major rune, or a weapon with "junk" mods. When a team does chest runs, they take turns being the first one to open a chest, thus saving keys for the others if it is a "purple chest," one that will only drop purple items("junk"). So I highly suggest against it... it can be a money waster. Since tons of people now know about these chest runs, the drop quality inevitably goes down. So there are better ways to invest your hard-earned gold.

I regularly did the Fire Island as a chest run. I would get keys, usually buying 4, and I ALWAYS cleared out the island. Doing this usually made it profitable for me. THe drops were "ok", but clearing out the island usually made up for any poor drops. Just by the chest's alone, I would say I was 50/50 on making money, about 2k when I did. Clearing the entire island, that usually put me at 5k. Now this is from picking up everything and selling it, not just gold drops.

I've had GREAT luck in getting Sup runes from outside Sorrow's. I have averaged 2 sup runes each time I went, last month, about 3 trips a week(worked alot of OT that month).

Aside from Sup runes and greens, that's the best money maker that I've seen. Sorrow's Furnace. (not counting UW and FOW)

I also only use my game completed W/M, 1 heal henchie, 1 warrior henchie, Aidin, and whatever caster I feel like rotating. 5 total (me and 4 henchies) and I get good drops in Sorrow's.
